Allow your mind to dream for a few minutes. It is the year 2504, and you are part of a
development crew that is building on a landfill site of the 1990s. Various objects are uncovered: a surprisingly
well preserved fountain pen, what remains of a manual typewriter, and parts to what
must have been a computer. The
University Deans rush in and make a profound announcement, “Now there is proof
of our theory,” they boldly state. “You
see, because of mans need to communicate better, and through different pressures
and forces of nature, and given enough time, the fountain pen mysteriously developed.” But it doesn’t end there. “The pen obviously evolved into the
typewriter,” they proclaim, “and over time the typewriter into the computer.” And how did this all happened? By sheer chance of course.
Ridiculous you say, common sense tells us that something as simple as
a fountain pen had to have a designer, but such is the case for the tale of
evolution.
By the term evolution, what we are talking
about is the amoeba-to-man theory atheist Charles Darwin brought forth in his
1859 book, Origin of the Species. What we are NOT referring to is natural
variations found among same species. More
often than not, evolution is presented in schools today as established fact,
unquestioned by any “thinking” person.
But the truth is, evolution is not a fact. Much knowledge has developed since the dark ages of the Civil War,
and Darwin’s attempt to make a monkey out of us has collapsed. Dr. A. E. Wilder-Smith, deliverer of the
Huxley Memorial Lecture at the Oxford Union, commented, “May not a future generation well ask, how any scientist, in full
possession of his intellectual faculties and with adequate knowledge of
information continue to exercise faith in naturalistic evolution?” There are no repeatable experiments that
can confirm evolution’s validity! Galileo, Pasteur, Newton, and more than 26 other founders of branches
of science were believers in Creationism.
Ninety percent of all astronomers alive
today, those that look into the farthest extent of the universe, believe the
hand that made the stars is Devine! The esteemed astronomer Carl Sagan and other
prominent scientists have estimated that the possibility of man evolving at
roughly 1 chance in 102,000,000,000.1 This is the number one with two billion zeros
after it. No chance at all. The famous astronomer and mathematician Sir
Fred Hoyle wrote, “The chance that life
forms might have emerged in this way is comparable with the chance that a
tornado sweeping through a junk yard might assemble a Boeing 747 from the
materials within, or a dictionary resulting from an explosion at a print ship.
2
If life on
earth evolved, it only makes sense that the fossil record would begin with
simple life-forms which would gradually transform into more complex types of
creatures. Darwin assumed future
findings would prove this theory. But millions
upon millions of fossils have been recovered in the 120 years since Darwin, yet
not one single “missing link” demonstrates the transition from one
reproductive species to another.3 Dr. Colin Patterson, senior
paleontologist at the British Museum (Natural History) in London, has more
fossils at his disposal than perhaps anyone else in the world. He said, “Within
the fossil record there is absolutely no trace of any transitional creatures – not even one! Evolution is an anti-theory that produces
anti- knowledge.” 4 Researchers
have never found, as an example, the bones of a short-necked giraffe. There is no fossil fish with scales evolving
into mammalian fur. There is no bird
fossil with a half developed wing, or a half developed feather. What
fossil experts have found is that new species appeared completely formed, suddenly
and abruptly – as if they were created “from nothing.”
Sir Julian Huxley, the leading
evolutionist in the world until his death, once stated that evolution, if
consistently accepted, makes it impossible to believe in the Bible. To
the scientist, evolution violates the first and second law of thermodynamics. To the thinker, evolution violates the laws
of probability, and to the Christian, evolution violates – the Word of God! It is
impossible for a person to correctly state that he is a Christian while not agreeing
with God’s Word! Genesis 1:1 states,
“In the beginning God created the
heavens and the earth.”
Francis Crick, Nobel Prize winner for the discovery
of DNA stated that an honest man, armed with the knowledge available to us
now, could only state that the origin of life appears to be a miracle. Astronaut John Glen, broadcasting from the Discovery Space Shuttle
in 1998 said, “To look out at this
creation and not believe in God, to me it’s impossible.” Werner von Braun,
NASA Director of the first moon voyage said, “I find it difficult to understand a scientist who does not acknowledge
the presence of a superior rationality behind the universe.” 5 Allen Sandage, the world’s greatest cosmologist, says,
“We cannot understand the universe
without the Supernatural.” 6
Albert Einstein, developer of relative thought said, “I want to know how God created the universe,” he said, “our limited minds cannot grasp the mysterious
force that moves the constellations.” 7
So why is a theory being taught as a fact? British evolutionist Sir Arthur Keith summed
it up quite well. He said, “Evolution is unproved and unprovable, we
believe it because the only alternative is creation and that is – unthinkable!”8 And
there you have it! Those who endorse evolution and discount Creationism do not do so for
lack of reason – but because of arrogance!
Dr. Hugh
Ross, author of “The Creator and the
Cosmos,” estimates that the probability of the simplest living cell (containing
more than a trillion bits of information) randomly occurring to be
similar to winning 1.4 million consecutive lotteries – impossible!
Take for example the human eye
and brain. Each eye can send a thousand
million impulses per second to the brain, which prompted Sir Charles Scott Sherrington, Oxford
physicist to state in his classic essay The
Eye, “Behind the intricate mechanism
of the human eye lies a breathtaking glimpse of a Master plan.”
9 Sir
Henry Fairfield Osborn, Oxford scientist, said, “The human brain is the most marvelous object in the universe. It contains 10 to 15 billion nerve ends,
each a living unit by itself. Weighing
3.3 lbs, it can perform that which 500 tons of electronic equipment cannot do.”
10 Odd or God?
Every civilization from the beginning of
time has referred to the Great Flood as recorded in the first book of the
Bible. Starting with Genesis and ending
with Revelation, the Christian Bible is a collection of 66 books, written by as
many as 40 authors over a period of approximately 1,600 years. Most of these writers lived in areas vastly
separated from each other, did not know each other or very little about what
each had written. Yet, all, in their
own way, point to a common theme. The
writers of the Old Testament prophesied more than 100 incidents which were
authenticated in the New Testament without ONE failure. What would be the odds of this happening
accidentally? No chance at all!
The New Testament introduces us to twelve
men from various walks of life who traveled with Christ for approximately three
years. But upon His death all fled and
hid in fear. Yet something incredible
happened shortly thereafter. All
claimed to have been a subscriber to Christ’s resurrection, became bold in
their witness, and eventually died for their beliefs. Throughout history, many martyrs have died for something they
believed to be true. But few have died
for what they knew to be a lie. It
is virtually impossible to gather twelve men or women together and have them
propagate a lie, spread it everywhere so that people believe it, and die for
it, knowing it to be a lie. It is a
psychological impossibility.
Shortly before his death in 1987, Jim Bishop, author of “The Day Kennedy Was Shot,” wrote this
column for the Miami Herald:
“All the wonders around us are accidental. No almighty hand made a thousand billion-stars. They made themselves. No power keeps them on their steady
course. The earth spins itself to keep
the oceans from falling off toward the sun. Infants teach themselves to cry when they are hungry or hurt. A small flower invented itself so that we
could extract digitalis for sick hearts. The earth gave itself day and night, and tilted itself so that we
get seasons. Without the magnetic poles
man would be unable to navigate the trackless oceans of water and air, but they
just grew there. How about the sugar
thermostat in the pancreas? It
maintains a level of sugar in the blood sufficient for energy. Without it, all of us would fall into a coma
and die. Why does snow sit on mountain
tops waiting for the warm spring sun to melt it at just the right time for
young crops in farms below to drink? A
very lovely accident.”
“The human heart will beat for 70 or 80 years without
faltering. How does it get sufficient
rest between beats? A kidney will
filter poison from the blood, and leave good things alone. How does it know one from the other? Who gave the human tongue flexibility to form
words, and a brain to understand them, but denied it to all other animals? Who showed a womb how to take the love of
two persons and keep splitting a tiny ovum until, a baby would have the proper
number of fingers, eyes and ears and come into the world when it is strong
enough to sustain life?” There is no God?
On the same date that Darwin was born,
February 12, 1809, President Abraham Lincoln was born. Their lives however, would make entirely
different impacts on the world. Lincoln’s life was one of belief and inspiration during difficult
times. Darwin, the skeptic, spent his
life searching for a negative hope he never found. He died a lonely man. Alas
– for such a shallow existence. All the
skeptic has to look forward to after the grave is the disintegration of the
protoplasm and cytoplasm of which his body and personality was once
composed. Knowing not from whence he
came, or why, cognizant of his own frailty, weakness, and brevity, think you
not that he does not sometimes yearn for a staff on which to lean – he too
carries a cross. For him, life is but a
tricky raft adrift in the unfathomable waters of eternity with no horizon in
sight.
Drifting – Drifting ‑
Drifting . . . whither for certainty no one knows!
